So different Georgia and ... spring cakes with tarragon

About the unusual

When they ask me: how is Russia there? I'm lost. Well, how can I answer for the whole huge country? I am pleased to tell you how my parents, daughter, student, relatives and friends live. All the economic, political and emotional knowledge of Russian life with me is within the same city or region. It is difficult to explain that the capital and the hinterland are sometimes shared by the seas and oceans in the form of regional reforms and the regional budget.

So is Georgia. She is different. In the capital, people, customs, habits, priorities are one, in the regions - others.

Tbilisi. By our standards, everything is wrong here: winter without snow, daffodils in February, tomatoes in March. Relatives send photos of tired snowy cities of Russia. Mid-April ... And they quietly hate my pictures, where the grass is already knee-deep. And on a video specially recorded for the Motherland, swallows dive and butterflies fly.

But only 180 km from the capital, in the ski resort of Bakuriani, there is snow. Agree, unusual?

Oh sad

By the way, the Georgians here are completely different from those in Russia. In our country, they are cheerful, energetic, charming, wealthy and avid for women. And in Georgia ... Nowhere have I seen so many gloomy faces and people dressed in black. Life is a serious thing. Not up to pampering.

I never cease to be surprised at relationships in families. Proud, temperamental, and sometimes arrogant Georgians have one golden quality: to be silent where necessary. Agree, we, Russian women, slightly reckless, we can’t hold our tongue. And after all, we regularly suffer because of this. Is not it so? But the women of Georgia achieve their goal without entering into verbal fights.

By the way, before, I thought that only in Russia does a woman work, raise children, take care of the house, look after her husband and, of course, cook for the whole family. I hasten to share: here wives and mothers do the same!

Georgians mostly praise their husbands, but they also heard discontented murmurs. They say they are lazy, they drink a lot of wine. I think that not only laziness is to blame. Unemployment. I have no statistics, and I am not trying to prove anything. I just know that for twenty years now factories and factories have closed. Only wine production remained. Agriculture is at a rather low level, much has been ruined by Western innovations. Where do people work?

I am sure that over many years of unemployment, people have forgotten how to achieve goals, set ambitious goals, pursue a career, and build labor relations.

The older generation cynically deleted the previous government from the history of the country. Just because these people lived, studied, served in the army under the USSR. Accordingly, their values were unnecessary. Such forty-year-old “old men” were promised to be lowered into the sewers. And for the most part have achieved. Highly qualified engineers, specialists, workers were left out of the new life. Remember the 90s in Russia? Not exactly that, but very similar.

And as an addition, the usual picture of city life: in broad daylight in the middle of Tbilisi, a handful of men enthusiastically playing backgammon. Stray in packs. Where it leads?

Naturally, there is a very cheap labor. Young people dream of leaving for Europe, Russia, America as laborers. The ultimate dream. As a result, a generation of emigrants was grown. Instead of patriots. Incredible, controversial, nasty and sad.

But the nature of Georgia is incredible, fabulously diverse and condescending; history goes back to ancient centuries; culture (architecture, literature, painting) is rich and original. The people are warm as their sun; strong as a Caucasian ridge; as cheerful and agile as mountain rivers. Then why such self-abasement and self-destruction?

300 Georgian Spartans

Georgians really have something to be proud of. They were always brave warriors. Among them are real heroes, outstanding commanders and rulers, and excellent politicians. Historical information has been preserved, legends and legends exist, and monuments have been erected, reminiscent of past victories, battles, heroism.
On the outskirts of the capital, in the region of Ortachal, a stele rises in honor of the dead soldiers - Aragvins (from the name of the mountain river Aragvi).

A stele in Georgia in honor of the Aragvinian warriors

In the eighteenth century, the Persians invaded the country. The Georgians knew about the impending attack, but were not well prepared, as they were waiting for help from Russia. She was not followed. After several battles, the Persians came close to the capital. In a battle with a huge army of Persians, 300 Aragvines defended their hometown and their king Heraclius II. Of course, the forces were unequal, the Persians destroyed Tbilisi. Georgian soldiers died, and their courage is equated with the feat of the Spartans and is preserved in the memory of the people. In their honor, the Tbilisi metro station is even named.

Georgian Russian

Recently found a thematic joke. In the student cafeteria, the professor-philologist always spoiled the mood. Every day here he heard: "I have ONE coffee." And suddenly one day: "Please, ONE coffee!" The professor, not believing his ears, turns around with joy to hug the only literate ... "AND ONE spoon," Givi adds.
Yes Yes. There are no births in the Georgian language, therefore Russian speech in this interpretation is interesting and touching. Here you can hear: “What a cough!” Or “I have a spasm.”

Often, Georgians who do not even speak Russian will weave our words into their oral text. Either they do not have a similar replacement, or already a habit that is passed down from generation to generation.

Here I hear a stream of other people's words: loud, harsh and incomprehensible. And suddenly, as a result, musically sounds: “Kaaaroche, raaaa!” This phrase is applicable to any situation, company, to completely different topics and conversations. As a finale, the highest point of indignation, joy, sorrow, hopelessness or unbridled joy. In general, now this is my favorite conclusion to the conversation.

Recently, I began to realize that I can’t even learn the local language at all. Not only is it extremely difficult to pronounce their guttural sounds, everything else in my environment: family, friends, shopkeepers and neighbors, is explained in Russian.

And as a pathologically lazy lady, I only note how they say. So, Georgians use little by little instead of the word “little by little”, quietly instead of “slowly”.

There are still such replacements. Instead of the question “why?” - it sounds “why?” And what do we exclaim in order to emphasize the importance of thought? - Right! Right! Of course! And Georgians say in such a situation: “Tell me this!” Or another case, we use the sentence: "In vain he did it." Georgians lament: "He should not have done it now." Soft and unusual. In addition, they distort words in a childish way and pronounce: “colidor” or “velisaped”.

By the way, their own language is very colorful, imaginative and vibrant. For example, our neighbor in the country, a seventy-year-old woman, teaching me life in the village, said: “I don’t know how it sounds in Russian, but we say that. Never tell your neighbors your pains and grievances. Better lean over, tell the earth and bury. So it will be safer. " And there are a lot of such sayings, parables, turns, for many occasions. It should be noted that Georgians are proud of their lively, such a characteristic language.

About a healthy lifestyle

After living a month in Tbilisi, searching for work to no avail, I realized that I needed to organize myself and my time. By evening, having managed household chores, I wanted to go outside. Take a walk, breathe in the fresh warm air. And I came up with: we will run! My husband's teenage son decided to support me, or maybe he was afraid to let me out in the evening alone.

The area in which we live is called Didube. Literally translated as a large field. It is just a few minutes from the Kura embankment. And we started! Of course, it was said loudly, because in ten minutes I was running alone. Lado (and in our opinion - Volodya) fell behind with no habit. Then I began to cut circles around him, so as not to leave the child and at the same time not to stop.I quickly got tired of it, and I decided to slightly increase the pace.

In short, I began to rapidly move away from the teenager with the firm intention of returning soon. And suddenly I hear the stomp from behind, I turn around. Lado, having gathered his last strength and his will into a fist, is catching up with me. I decided to cheer him up: “Well done! Keep it up! "And in response to me, a pronounced male skepticism flies:" What am I a dog, just run around ?!

Attempts to keep fit failed miserably. In Georgia, there is still no universal craving for weight loss or proper nutrition. Everyone prefers to eat a lot. Moreover, everything is so delicious here.

By the way, that evening my friend Alena treated us to pies with tarragon filling.
