- Alena, in your opinion, how was this situation? What was the impetus?
- I think the impetus was the development of social networks. It has become easy for millions of people to keep abreast of everything that happens in the world. Including in the field of beauty. A sphere like ours was and will be relevant. And this is wonderful! I myself came to this by accident: I left law and went to study as a hairdresser, makeup artist. And very quickly I realized that the brush is mine. I could not think of anything else. Photographers appreciated my first steps in the profession, and I began to participate in photo projects, and then came to study with make-up artist Natalya Shik, and she couldn’t let me go ... I always wanted to work in a team, and I was entrusted with managing the studio in my hometown, although I didn’t have an understanding of what it is. But now I am proud of our results. The main achievement is that on our own, with our small team, without any help, we outgrew a studio of 24 squares and moved to 80 square meters. We are located on the ground floor, we have improved our level: it’s not just snack bars, an office, but a salon. I saw this place for a long time in my head, right down to the details, and dreamed about it. We equipped the entire interior to our worldview, to our taste. And our team has grown from two to seven.
- What is the difference between professional cosmetics and mass-market brands that can be found in any large store?
- Professional cosmetics is not always something dense, persistent, indelible. She, on the contrary, is more nursing. We even gave the cosmetics we work with for examination to Moscow. They checked the brands that we sell, and were disappointed in something, and directly rejoiced in something.Those of our favorite materials that we have been using for more than six years have proved their quality, in the sense that they do not penetrate anywhere, have no unpleasant properties, they have no harmful chemical extracts from oil and other nonsense. These are brands Atelier, Cargo.
Becca brand cosmetics are very pleased that it is really mineral, you can literally sleep with it, and it’s not scary that you wear it for a long time. Yes, there are some silicones, but it's safe. If you take the mass market, I often go there, but very often it turns out that tonal means are not suitable for our Russian people: some yellow ones, pinkish, more European. And our faces are a little olive-gray. And in professional lines, this variety of shades is more widely represented. It’s easier to choose the right tone.

- Let's talk about the "excesses in the field"? After all, a certain fashion is also present in the make-up ... Hundreds of girls were consistently carried away by underlining eyebrows, sculpting, red lips. And it didn’t always look great. What are some common mistakes women make-up make?
- To be in a trend, just go to the Internet, watch video tutorials, look through photos, and if you really want to learn how to use a brush, then it's better to go to a professional studio. This is interesting - even just to be in this atmosphere - because there is a lot of feminine energy, which is often not enough. After all, students receive not only skills and knowledge, they receive new emotions, acquaintances and inspirational ideas.
With makeup, you just need to feel that it suits you better: people are different, different colors, color types too. There are people to whom it is difficult to apply two accents in makeup, and there is such a type of appearance that it is like a white sheet, you can accent there not only eyes, eyebrows and cheekbones, but also a hairstyle, and a person looks harmonious anyway, with all these accents .
What are most often mistaken? Here you can make a whole rating. In the selection of shades, probably most often. And still not that color temperature, not that means texture, not those lines emphasize. This is just what catches the eye. Each skin needs to be able to choose its own texture tool. But in the first place there is still a color, a shade: very often I see a foundation that is so red, or the cheekbones are underlined in orange, pink, blush is applied in the wrong place, asymmetry in the lines, and so on. By the way, when buying cosmetics, women most often check the texture and shade on the hand, and not on the face. A typical mistake.
- Makeup for a girl of 20 years and for a mature woman are always different approaches to makeup?
- That's not always! In fact, I also used to think that a young girl can do anything, and if a woman is aged, then there are restrictions. But my clientele is very diverse, and I really like it, I learn a lot. A woman of about 55 may come, and she is so lively, energetic, loves this brightness, she is blonde, that is, she has a bright color. She is a good age, she loves black eyes and knows how to “wear” them! She feels like a queen in this image, she maintains the whole style in this perspective, she is comfortable in this, and we do a strong, heavy makeup. But she goes to her and does not look overloaded on her. And it happens that a young girl comes and you are afraid to do something extra, she is bright in herself, and if she is slightly overloaded, this is already plus 5-7 years. That is, everything very much depends on the model itself.
Lifting makeup helps to hide age - this is, first of all, lightening of the skin, our falling lines of the face. Here you need to give freshness, add as little dimming as possible. Any blackout is always an extra age, whether you want it or not, it is always a plus. And therefore, in lifting, we try to brighten as much as possible, make a refreshing correction: this is the work of blush of gentle warm shades. Well and most importantly - to raise all the lines: eyeliner, arrows, cilia, and, of course, our favorite eyebrows, without them, too, nowhere.
- Probably all clients pay attention to the face of their makeup artist? You personally, as a rule, have a natural and almost imperceptible make-up.
- Because the makeup artist should be modest and almost invisible. The customer is always in the spotlight! In everyday life, I like to emphasize only the main lines of the face: cheekbones, eyebrows, eyelashes and a little lip, it seems to me that this is the essence of makeup - to stay real. But sometimes you still want to be someone else, and then the flight of fantasy begins ...
- Can you describe your personal cosmetic bag? What lies in it?
“To be honest, I'm a shoemaker without boots.” I just don’t have anything at home. So I ran to work now, I only have day cream on my face, and I don’t even remember his brand - some kind of pharmacy cosmetics. Everything lives in the studio, where I spend a lot of time. We always have a rule: we, make-up artists, arrive before 10:00, paint here and only then get to work.
- Can you recommend three remedies that are worth “prescribing” in a cosmetic bag on an ongoing basis?
- This is, firstly, a concealer to neutralize unnecessary shades on the face, it is aimed at correction - I do not like the word flaws! - some problems on the skin. Then cream blush, which can also serve as shadows, and also give a beautiful shade on the lips. You can apply them simply with your fingers. It seems to me that there is generally complete freedom of creativity: you can take some cream blush and apply them on your lips, cheeks or eyes. Even lipstick can be eye shadow, creamy textures are generally universal ... Well, and thirdly, there should always be something to shape the eyebrows: eye shadow, pencil, gel or tint.
- What is the most difficult thing in your profession, what “overloads” are there?
- All at once: a lot of work, sometimes fatigue, there are difficult clients ... But it’s worth it, because such difficulties motivate you to learn and acquire new skills, fly somewhere and communicate with new people, read books on psychology and self-development, engage in various sports, monitor nutrition and sleep patterns. You are not just a makeup artist - it is already becoming a way of life. And I am happy that I am doing this because I get the same great return.
- What professional advice do you most often have to give clients?
- When clients come, I ask them to remove their make-up on their own, give cotton pads and see the following picture: everything rubs my face very hard, especially my eyelids, eyes. The movements are very rough, strong, pulling, tearing even! Instead, you just need to moisten the cotton pad with a means that you wash off (it doesn’t matter if it is biphasic or micellar water) and hold it on your eyes, on your eyebrows. Such products must first dissolve the makeup, and then remove it. And we wash ourselves as if with soap, if only to rustle it faster ... We need to love ourselves more and injure ourselves less!
