Veronica is 43 years old. All her life she was overweight. Diets, diets, diets that had no end did not bring results. Rather, it was, but short-term and no more than a couple of kilograms for weeks of exhausting starvation.

Today, Veronika Nagornaya talks about how and why she decided to do a DNA test, what she learned about her body, how not only her diet changed, but her life as a whole.

- Veronica, where and how did you find out about the possibility of undergoing DNA analysis?

- I was advised by his girlfriend. She did a DNA analysis at MyGenetics and received a detailed report that spelled out individual recommendations for nutrition and exercise. For example, I was very surprised when I found out that the same seemingly healthy products benefit someone. And someone better not to use them, as they are poorly absorbed. Became interesting.

- Why did you decide to do a DNA analysis?

- For different reasons. I’ve been fighting overweight all my life. I tried different diets, went to fitness, but received only a temporary result. It’s hard for me to go on some kind of diet all the time, and without it, the lost kilos will quickly return. Besides, I can’t eat everything. After eating some foods that I included in the diet on the advice of nutritionists, I felt heaviness, malaise. I didn’t understand what was the matter. Intuitively, I assumed what foods I do not want, but I wanted to understand why.

Somehow, everything went hard, did not receive satisfaction from classes, did not see the result. In the end, I decided on this analysis. Honestly, I did not strongly believe in the success of the venture and perceived it as entertainment. Although she still hoped (laughs) in her heart that even after DNA analysis, something would change.

- What did you like most?

- Firstly, I liked that the procedure is very simple. Having paid for the purchase, I received a kit for self-sampling of DNA samples and detailed instructions on what and how to do. Then I sent the sample to the laboratory at the indicated address and after 2 weeks I received a detailed report to myself (about 100 pages!) I was asked to choose the report form myself: either it will be printed on good quality paper or can be obtained by e-mail. I chose in the form of a booklet and was pleasantly surprised. I found a lot of useful and interesting information in it.

- What information is contained in the report?

- The report is well structured and divided into chapters. I learned that for every person, a body mass index is important. This is an indicator of the correspondence of weight and height, which shows the degree of obesity or underweight. The report indicates what my body mass index is, what should be my normal weight, how many calories per day do I need to use in order to lose weight and maintain weight.

It also contains information about my options for genes responsible for the characteristics of assimilation of products. It turned out that I do not just like sweets, it is explained by genes. And I do not like the taste of alcohol for a reason.The gene responsible for sensitivity to bitter is responsible for this. Only 6% of such people in the world, and I am among them.

Based on the analysis, detailed recommendations were made for me: which foods should be eaten and which ones should be limited or completely abandoned. Even an approximate menu for the day is indicated.

There is useful information about sports. For example, I recognized my type of genetic endurance. It can be used to determine whether a person needs physical activity or is it vitally important. If a person belongs to the first type, he is lucky, and you do not need to engage in sports until exhaustion. But I belong to the second type, because of which I was always prone to fullness. And sport is very important for me to keep my body in good shape.

- What, in your opinion, is the main value of DNA analysis?

- It is important that a person learns what type of food and physical activity will help him maintain normal weight, feel better. With a 100 percent guarantee! Having done DNA analysis once in a lifetime, you can adhere to the recommendations received for many years and feel great. It captivates that these are not some new-fangled authoring techniques, but the use of the achievements of science. You trust such methods.

- Have you already felt the result?

- Yes! How little is needed for happiness (laughs)! At first I began to follow the recommendations out of curiosity. Then she got a taste. I really liked that I do not have to strictly limit myself to food. In addition, I used to intuitively know which sport is more suitable for me, but I did not dare to deal with it. DNA analysis confirmed my guesses. It turned out that the most effective physical activity for me was running. And this was the impetus, so that I finally started classes.

- How can you characterize such a DNA analysis with one phrase?

- Would you recommend a DNA analysis to your friends and acquaintances?

- Yes, several friends have already made such an analysis on my recommendation. Some are still waiting for the report, but my cousin has already received it.
