How to remove scale in a teapot: ready-made solutions and the right proportions of folk remedies

It is impossible to be indifferent to tea or coffee. They will add a soulful note to friendly or family gatherings. The dominant role in perfect brewing is played by water quality. Not only the taste of the drink, but also the “health” of the teapot depends on this. And although this is a rather unpretentious household appliance, it still requires care. Over time, its inner coating and heating element (spiral or disk in electric models) are overgrown with scale. Therefore, it is important to know how to clean the kettle from scale at home.
Old copper kettle

The modern variety of dummies is amazing. You can’t keep track of innovations: manufacturers experiment with materials, technologies, shapes and colors. To make the kettle last a long time, it is advised to use spring, filtered or bottled water. And if this is not possible, defend tap water for 24 hours.

Why does a raid appear

Over time, scale will appear in any kettle. But the increased water hardness will shorten these times many times and will cause many problems. Firstly, scale is dangerous for the heating element. A spiral or a metal disk coated with a coating quickly overheats, lose heat transfer and, as a result, burn out. Secondly, boiling will require additional energy costs. Well, it’s clear that water only from clean dishes will give coffee or tea a good taste.

Hard water in excess contains calcium and magnesium salts. A stiffness of 3 to 6 mEq / L is considered normal. White and dark spots on the taps, sink or toilet, clogged holes in the shower tube, whitish spots on the washed dishes, permanent lime deposits in the kettle are sure signs of high water hardness (from 6 to 9 mEq / l).

Many people believe that installing a filter (pitcher, flow or reverse osmosis) will completely eliminate the problem of scale. In fact, this will reduce plaque formation, but only slightly. The effect of most filters is not aimed at softening water, but at its mechanical cleaning of heavy metals and bleach.

How to clean the kettle from scale: special chemistry

How to wash an aluminum kettle and remove rust? Before descaling in a teapot, you need to remember: it is impossible to mechanically remove an already formed coating. If you start scrubbing it or scrubbing it with your own hands, ruin the device. Therefore, in our time created a lot of chemicals to combat scum. Basically, these are liquid or powdered preparations based on soda ash.

They all have the same principle of operation: according to the indicated dosage, we put it in a kettle, fill the device with water to the maximum mark and boil it. After that, rinse thoroughly, boil fresh water again and drain.

Do not use cleaning gels and powders with large abrasive granules. They will scratch the surface, and the scale will stick even more firmly to the bottom and walls of the kettle.

The main disadvantage of industrial products is that chemicals can enter the stomach. So this is not harmless. Yes, and not all formulations give the desired effect.

Old fashioned ways

You can rest assured: time-tested folk recipes guarantee a 100% positive result.Ordinary soda, vinegar and "lemon" are recognized leaders among the remedies for scale in a teapot. Successful disposal of solid deposits will require knowledge of the dosages, purification steps and rules for use in different types of devices. You can also boil it to eliminate pollution.

For a conventional enameled kettle

Such instances are less and less common in modern kitchen interiors. But, of course, they continue to buy them, because they are much cheaper than their electric counterpart. Caring for an enameled kettle is easy enough. The main thing is to do everything in a timely manner.

Vinegar

  1. Fill the kettle with a solution of two parts of water and one part of table vinegar. Bring to a boil and cool naturally.
  2. Then drain the water, rinse the dishes liberally.
  3. If the precipitate is not completely recovered, repeat the procedure.
In order to boil the kettle from scale with vinegar and not get poisonous with steam, during operation you need to open the windows and put on a protective gauze mask. Before using the kettle, boil clean, empty water again to eliminate a specific vinegar aroma.

Lemon acid

  1. Fill the kettle with lemon water at the rate of 10 g “lemon” per one liter of water.
  2. Boil.
  3. Leave the hot solution for several hours.
  4. To pour out, carefully wash off lime grains.
You can replace the store tool with lemon: cut into pieces and boil for ten minutes.

Soda

  1. Boil a soda solution in a kettle diluted in the following proportion: two tablespoons of baking soda per liter of water.
  2. Wait until it cools down and remove soft deposits with a sponge.
  3. If the descaling quality does not suit, repeat twice.
  4. This procedure can also be preceded by vinegar cleaning.

Electric kettle and yellow cup

For electrical appliance

The electric kettle is very easy to handle. Heats water quickly and almost silently, looks very aesthetically pleasing and modern. The impeccable appearance of such a kettle requires internal cleanliness. Regular care is especially necessary for heating elements. It is more convenient to clean a kettle with a disk heater than with a spiral one reminiscent of a Soviet-era boiler. In addition, the first is more durable and heats water faster. How to effectively descale an electric kettle? What methods are suitable for devices made of different materials?

From glass

  1. Boil water with a couple of tablespoons of citric acid and the same amount of soda powder.
  2. Let it stand up to 20 minutes.
  3. Wash off the natural acid-base composition.
Vinegar will help to successfully descale in an electric glass kettle. Everything is extremely simple: open a window, boil water and only after turning off the appliance pour two or three tablespoons of food vinegar into boiling water, cover with a kitchen towel until it cools completely. Check that the shiny metal surface of the heater does not darken. Rinse thoroughly with running water.

Stainless steel

  1. Pour a full kettle of water (standard capacity is 1.7 liters).
  2. Add a couple tablespoons of soda and boil.
  3. After cooling, remove the white flakes with a soft washcloth.
  4. Rinse thoroughly.

A stainless steel teapot is less prone to the formation of calcareous growths. Nevertheless, a few more tips will be useful on how to quickly get rid of scale in a teapot from such material. So, in a container, you can boil a pickle from pickled cucumbers or tomatoes. Cleaning with apple or grape vinegar is also recommended - a glass of product is poured into a boiled liter of water and left for half an hour.

Black tea with mint and brown sugar in a ceramic set

Made of ceramic

Beautiful painted ceramic teapots, although very durable, require an accurate and careful attitude. There are no special recommendations for cleaning plaque, so choose one of the recipes above.

Remember safety measures when working with boiling water and cleansing folk remedies. This is important because, according to reviews, ceramic teapots are quite weighty, hold heat for a very long time and have rather uncomfortable, very hot handles.

Made of plastic

Such an appliance is the cheapest, lightest and unpretentious. It will be as good as new if you clean it with any tool at hand. You can also try and evaluate a peculiar way: boil water with apple peelings in a saucepan, let it brew a little and pour into an electric kettle. After a couple of hours, pour the compote into the sink and rinse the cleaned dishes with water.

Missed cases, if the raid does not depart in any way

You do not know how to remove a strong scum in a teapot? The following method, consisting of six simple steps, “cures” the missed cases.

  1. In a teapot with boiling water add three tablespoons of soda.
  2. After half an hour, boil again and pour immediately.
  3. Gather fresh water and now add a couple of tablespoons of vinegar.
  4. Boil the solution again and pour out after half an hour.
  5. Remove the formed loose mass with a soft sponge.
  6. Rinse well so that there is no vinegar smell.

Does the method work with Coca-Cola

Salt deposits of calcium and magnesium dissolve under the influence of citric, acetic, orthophosphoric acids. The latter - H3PO4 - is part of the popular Coca-Cola drink. To clean the kettle from Coca-Cola scale, you just need to pour 0.5 l of the drink into the appliance (this is enough to completely cover the heater). In 15 minutes, soda removes light deposits without boiling. You can fix the effect by boiling this sweet flavored liquid in a teapot and at the end just rinse it well with water.

This unusual way is suitable for a glass teapot. And for plastic, stainless steel and ceramics, exclude drinks with dyes, they can pigment the walls of the appliance. Try boiling plain soda water.

Practice shows that the best way to remove limescale is to clean the kettle from limescale with citric acid by boiling water with a couple of spoons of “lemon”. It turns out cleaner and cheaper than using Coca-Cola, as well as without the pungent odor, as in the case of vinegar.

"Options" from scale

It is interesting that there are ways not only how to remove scale in a teapot, but also how to prevent its appearance. To do this, simply select a device with additional “options”. Inside some models (though they are more expensive), cleaning cartridges are installed that filter and heat water at the same time. There are also kettles with gilding on a spiral, the function of which is to protect the part from hard plaque and corrosion. But the most “advanced” users recommend installing an electromagnetic water converter at home. So in one fell swoop you can solve all the problems with increased water hardness and protect not only the kettle from scale, but also the washing machine along with the water tank.
