Polysorb for cleansing the body: dosage regimens and indications

The trade name Polysorb actually hides silica powder, better known as the E551 anti-caking agent. Polysorb is not a discovery of recent years. The active substance "Polysorb" is most often found in toothpaste, powdered food and non-food products, which should remain loose. According to the instructions for use "Polysorb", the tool is not absorbed by the body and serves only as a good adsorbent.

Silicon dioxide is also known as "white coal" because it really has an effect in many ways similar to activated carbon. Only as “white coal” is it released in tablets instead of powder. The use of "Polysorb" to cleanse the body is almost unlimited by contraindications. There are not so many side effects at Polysorb, as the drug is inert to the body.

It is not surprising that the reviews of doctors about Polysorb are more often positive than negative, but only if patients do not get carried away with the adsorbent. It should also be borne in mind that, for all its safety, polysorbent is a symptomatic remedy - eliminating only the signs of the disease and able to distort them.

Release form

So, silicon dioxide is part of sand, quartz, glass. And to see it at the base of “Polysorb” or even detergent we are still unusual. Nevertheless, the idea to use silicon as the basis of Polysorb came to scientists when it turned out that the constant use of purified or silicon-rich water reduces the likelihood of Alzheimer's disease, albeit slightly. If in the case of “white coal” silicon dioxide is pressed into tablets (unlike activated carbon, it is very difficult to bite them), then “Polysorb” is a powder sold in packages of 3, 12 or 24 g.

Operating principle. Benefit and harm

To the question of how Polysorb works, it can be said that, when taken as part of an aqueous solution, the drug absorbs (adsorbs) and binds toxic compounds of various nature in the stomach and / or intestines.

  • Food and drink poisons. If the food turned out to be stale, it may contain products of the decay of animal and vegetable protein or the oxidation of fats, as well as compounds that initially got there thanks to the “finds” of the modern food industry. For example, canned fish poisoning has been increasingly occurring recently due to the presence of formaldehyde. And the “chocolate” filling for confectionery products often acquires the smell of gasoline, having lain for a couple of days without cooling. "Polysorb" can be treated and alcohol poisoning, taking the remedy for a hangover syndrome. At the same time, “Polysorb” in case of poisoning with highly or fast-acting poisons will have little effect on their symptoms or prognosis of patient survival.
  • Pathogens. Most often, bacteria, but worms also have the ability to synthesize substances hazardous to the host organism. In most cases, we are talking about ordinary products of their vital functions, they are simply alien to the human body and have a toxic effect on it. In addition, such compounds irritate the immune system and provoke allergies.
  • Own Decay Products. That is, formed in the body itself, and not received from the outside.This happens with metabolic disorders, renal failure, diseases of the liver and spleen.
It is interesting that Polysorb has osmotic properties brighter than activated charcoal - the ability to draw back compounds into the intestinal cavity that have already arrived from it into the blood and lymph flows. In other words, Polysorb can bind and remove everything that has already gone into the bloodstream or is circulating there for another reason. That’s why reviews about Polysorb when used as intended are often even better than those of its black and more crumbly counterpart.

Indications

Large white bottleAs follows from the principle of action of Polysorb, the main indications for the use of the drug relate, first of all, to poisoning. Polysorb also helps with toxicosis in early pregnancy, relieves symptoms in dermatitis of an unclear cause. In particular, Polysorb can reduce the severity of symptoms with:

  • allergies - including that manifested in infections and intoxication caused by helminthic invasions;
  • rotavirus - that is, "intestinal flu", which is accompanied by acute digestive upset and stool, inflammation of the intestinal mucosa, colic and gas;
  • dyspepsia - nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, gas, and other "intestinal" symptoms;
  • dysentery - regardless of what it is caused by (shigella or amoeba);
  • hepatitis - viral lesions of the liver, in which "Polysorb" is used as part of complex therapy;
  • pancreatitis - inflammation of the pancreas caused by infection or obstruction of the ducts of the organ with gallstones.
The pancreas synthesizes not only insulin, but also pancreatic juice. Therefore, with pancreatitis, not only can there be a sudden blockage and the beginning of self-digestion of the organ, but also the complete disappearance of the digestive juice from the duodenum. Full-fledged digestion of food by the intestine becomes impossible, and Polysorb in this situation promotes the binding of non-formatted compounds.

Contraindications and side effects

The danger of Polysorb is also associated with the universality of the product described above. People themselves are not able to establish the causes of many unpleasant symptoms. And their disappearance, albeit temporary, further reduces the desire to seek medical help. Therefore, even against the background of such wide symptomatic possibilities, Polysorb is not ideal. Among the contraindications for taking "Polysorb" are the following conditions.

  • Chair Delay (constipation). Including funds available at the time of reception. Constipation is on the list of side effects of Polysorb. So, the use of the drug with an already existing deviation in the work of the intestine is contraindicated.
  • Individual intolerance. In the form of allergies or acute intestinal reactions, provided that they were not the reason for taking Polysorb.
  • Gastric and intestinal ulcers. Especially during exacerbation or perforation. The basis of "Polysorb" is insoluble in water - with its help you can only make an absorbent suspension (suspension). So, Polysorb will irritate the edges of existing erosion as much as fiber or food acids. Meanwhile, peptic ulcer disease often causes not only characteristic pains, but also a general digestive / stool disorder. Accordingly, the temptation to take Polysorb at such moments is very high. For the same reason, Polysorb is not recommended for use during periods of “quiet” ulcers, as well as gastritis - previous erosion of inflammation of the walls of the stomach.
  • Age to one year. Since the causes of colic, stool and gas disorders during this period can be serious, and radically differ from those in adults. Polysorb is not intended for newborns with their sterile digestive tract and dietary features (one breast milk or artificial mixture).

Cases of overdose of Polysorb have not been studied in detail, since the drug does not interact with the metabolic system.Nevertheless, the excess of the doses indicated in the instructions to the Polysorb or abuse of the drug can increase the symptoms of intestinal disorder instead of weakening them, provoke flatulence, colic and constipation. Due to the property of Polysorb to mechanically irritate the walls of the stomach and intestines, it is not intended for the prevention of any diseases. "Polysorb" is used only to absorb toxic compounds, if any, in the intestines.

It must be remembered that Polysorb enhances the biochemical activity of certain B vitamins, in particular, vitamin B3 - nicotinic acid. Polysorb also makes the action of simvastatin, one of the cholesterol blockers, intended for the treatment of atherosclerosis and its complications more noticeable.

Instructions for use "Polysorb"

As for how to drink Polysorb properly, there is only one basic requirement - always dilute Polysorb with water and never take it dry. In other words, you can’t eat Polysorb powder - you can only drink its suspension.

The dosage of Polysorb for different age groups is also different.

  1. Children from one to seven years old. A single dose of Polysorb in the indicated age interval is a teaspoon per glass of water, daily - not more than 200 mg of dry weight of Polysorb for every kilogram of a child’s body weight.
  2. Children over seven years old and adults. A single dose of Polysorb for them is a tablespoon of Polysorb powder in a glass of water, daily - not more than 12 g of the drug in dry form.

At any age, the daily rate of Polysorb should be divided into three to four doses in equal portions. A single dose of Polysorb should be diluted in warm boiled or filtered water, shaken and immediately drunk an hour before meals.

Among the full analogues of Polysorb, only “white coal” is listed. But they have a similar effect: activated carbon, Polyphepan, Enterodes, andSmecta". So you can choose enterosorbent to your taste. However, it is best to do this after consulting with your doctor first.

On the question of how much to take “Polysorb”, we can say that the duration of treatment is individual and depends on the nature of the disease. So, acute intestinal poisoning and infections do not require adsorbent for more than five days. The use of "Polysorb" to cleanse the body of toxins after helminthic invasion most often requires 10-12 days. If “Polysorb” is prescribed as part of complex therapy (for pancreatitis, hepatitis), its administration can take up to half a month.
