Step cooking

  1. You need to boil 300 g of beets in advance, because it is usually cooked longer than potatoes. My beets and slightly shorten the tail. For a salad, it is better to take medium beets so that they cook more quickly and evenly. We cook it "in uniform" without removing the skin, otherwise it will lose its color. In addition, you need to boil 300 g of carrots. Beets and carrots can be cooked together in one pan, only carrots become ready much faster. There are several ways to cook beets and the cooking time also depends on the choice of the method, which can range from 2 hours to 8-10 minutes. Typically, the beets are placed in a pan, poured with cold water so that it covers the vegetable, and cooked on the stove over low heat for about 2 hours from the moment of boiling. In order for the beets to retain their color, 0.5 vinegar or lemon juice is added to the water at the beginning of cooking. Carrots can be removed after 20 minutes from the start of cooking.
    Boil the beets until cooked.

    There is another option for boiling beets on a stove: it is poured with hot water and boiled for about 35-40 minutes, and to raise the boiling point, add a few tablespoons of vegetable oil. After this time, the beets are drained and put under a stream of cold water for another 15-20 minutes. Due to the temperature difference, the beets reach their readiness. You can cook beets in the oven, and it only takes 20-25 minutes. For this, each vegetable is wrapped in a foil greased with vegetable oil and baked at a temperature of 190 degrees. But this option is suitable if the beets are fresh and juicy. Beets can also be cooked in the microwave, and it will take up to 10 minutes. If you have a powerful microwave (about 1000 watts), then the washed beets are put in a glass dish, on the bottom of which 3-4 tablespoons of water are poured. Cover with a lid. If the microwave power is less, then the cooking time is increased by 2 times.
  2. We clean the boiled and chilled beets from the skin, cut into cubes and put in a salad bowl. So that she does not stain other vegetables, she is immediately mixed with a tablespoon of vegetable oil immediately after.
